Faith @ Rainbow Bridge

rottweiler faith dog

Faith came to me by accident really as she already had a home before she was even born. A friend of a friend had had a litter of puppies but as she had eye problems she was no longer wanted and the breeder couldn’t sell her. Without hesitation I said I would take her. She was the sweetest dog from day one. I had to take her to the vets regularly and she never ever complained or got grumpy it was as if she knew what had happened. She was the most affectionate dog that you could ever get and loved her family two and four legged. From the minute she met my step daughter she took on the role of her buddy and they were inseparable. I will never forget her sitting by bed wanting her belly rubbed. Always in my heart and never forgotten. ROTTWEILER SUNRISE 24 JULY 2004 SUNSET 12 MARCH 2010 Best Friends: HOPE & PHOENIX Missed by Rae, Liza and Tony

The Creation – poem

dog landscape sunset

dog landscape sunset

When God had made the earth and sky
the flowers and the trees,
He then made all the animals
the fish, the birds and bees.

And when at last He’d finished
not one was quite the same.
He said, “I’ll walk this world of mine
and give each one a name.”

And so He traveled far and wide
and everywhere He went,
a little creature followed Him
until it’s strength was spent.

When all were named upon the earth
and in the sky and sea,
the little creature said, “Dear Lord,
there’s not one left for me.”

Kindly the Father said to him,
“I’ve left you to the end.
I’ve turned my own name back to front
and called you dog, My friend.”

Hope @ Rainbow Bridge

My Hopie such a sweet girl. I met her mum before she was born and just knew my girl was going to be one in a million. She was born on Christmas Eve and was one of two puppies so a very big girl. I remember not knowing what to call her and my mum said you having been saying for days I hope she is born soon so why not Hope! She was my gentle giant and by my side through thick and thin.

My life changed a lot during her life and she was always my constant and seeemed to know that. She was like a big gentle bear always by my side quietly reassuring me that everything would be okay. I still miss her every day and will never forget her. DOGUE DE BORDEAUX SUNRISE 24 DECEMBER 2003 SUNSET 30 DECEMBER 2014 Best friends : FAITH & PHOENIX Missed by Rae, Liza & Tony.

The Original Rainbow Bridge Poem

Rainbow Bridge

The Original Rainbow Bridge Poem

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.

Skanks @ Rainbow Bridge

skanks chicken rescue

I spent many hard hours preparing our garden for the arrival of 12 rescue hens in the summer of 2009. I cleared the generously large section furthest from the house, moved a shed, built a sleeping accommodation for them and constructed a secure fence. The work was worth it though and the day we picked them up made it all worth while. The girls were rescued and transported back to their new paradise in large cardboard boxes. On their arrival, it took them ages to have the confidence to come out and explore. None of them had been outside before so things like grass and sunlight was a new and I guess quite scary experience. We gave them time to settle down and find their feet, with each hen emerging just a poorly and downtrodden as the next. We gave them the opportunity to enjoy their life after laying, the kind of life all animals should have. Although my daughter, who was about 4 at the time, grew particularly fond of PRUDENCE, I ended up with a soft spot for the runt of the runts, who I affectionately named Skanks as she was almost delightfully skanky, the skankiest of them all. They all spent their time happily together for the next few years, growing stronger every day. They all managed to grow a full body of wonderful brown feathers, and all of them were happy to be picked up and cuddled due to their newly found trust in humans, who had previously treated them so badly – who would have blamed them for never trusting us again. Skanks stood out for me for another personal reason… I took her to the vet when she became quiet and took herself off, like most animals do when the time is near. Alone on the car in the way down there I was stroking the back of her neck as she was lying on the passenger seat. She slowly closed her eyes as I pulled in to the vet car park. I cuddled her and tried to reassure he, but she had died in my arms. I have been vegetarian since x #rainbowbridgeonline

Welcome to Rainbow Bridge Online

Hi there, and a warm welcome to Rainbow Bridge Online.

This blog is dedicated to remembering our pets who are waiting, albeit busy playing, at Rainbow Bridge. It is a community of like-minded animal-lovers who want to remember their pets with a smile, whilst helping and supporting others who have also felt the pain of losing a friend or two.

We all have that in common.

I am Tony; a father, a husband and a dog owner. Like many of you, I love my pets and they are treated as family members. On saying that, if you ask my wife, the order is dogs, daughter and then me but hey, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

We currently have Missy the Pug (AKA Misty, Pug Face, Stinky, Cat-Dog, Top Cat and Princess Missy Moo Moo) and a Rottie called Bear (AKA Bear Peanut, Bear Cub, Stinky (notice a pattern here?) and Doofus). Naturally they both insisted on having their own Instagram pages… Missy can be found @pugtasticmissy, whilst Bear is @bear_peanut14. In this house, Missy is the boss of the two being older and, if I may, female. Bear is, quite simply, an arse. We all agree on that one.

Whilst losing a pet is incredibly tough, it is important to remember what did your pet do that made you smile? What fitting memorials can we create for them?

You can submit your pets for free here, or via our Instagram page if you prefer. This creates a fantastic memorial wall where other owners have submitted their pets. This allows animal lovers around the world to leave words of love, compassion and support quickly and easily.

I hope to create a passionate, loyal and active community for this pet loss memorial wall, and I hope that you will be part of that too. Words of support when your pet passes can make a real difference to how you feel, especially from strangers who are likely to be animals lovers who have experienced the pain of pet loss.

Even leaving a single emoji can help comfort a broken heart.

On that note you will find many poems and quotes offering comfort. I have written two poems myself, one of which is Rainbow Bridge (my version of the classic inspired by the original Rainbow Bridge poem) and the second is A Single Tear, the pet’s point of view whilst they wait at Rainbow Bridge. I hope you take the time to read them as I am super-proud of them both.

From A Single Tear, Buddy was created with the help of my daughter (who can be found on YouTube @ThatYouTubeGirl), and Buddy features on his own merchandise. If you like the story behind him, which you can read here, and would like to purchase some of his products, including our Pet Loss Memorial Pin, you can find out more on these Buddy the Dog blogs, or why not go crazy and jump straight to our Rainbow Bridge Merchandise Page or the  Rainbow Bridge Online store now…?!?

Finally I hope you will sense from me an underlying tone of love, compassion and empathy towards other pet lovers who, whilst having incredible 4-legged companions around them now, also have the irreplaceable and happy memories, with the occasion pang of sadness, for those who have since departed and who now wait for us at Rainbow Bridge.

Lots of love and all the very best to you and your extended family.

Tony
