The Rainbow Bridge Poem by Tony Bacon – link to the poem
To my dear friend I have some thoughts, now that I am safe and well
Having arrived at Rainbow Bridge, its like a magic spell
I’m full of health and happiness. I’m surrounded by so much love
Its such a safe & peaceful place, sunshine from above
Love is the only feeling which has transcended through the grave
But it breaks my heart to watch you cry – I need you to be brave.
Because I am fine, I’m waiting here, with no boundaries of space or time
A wag of the tail, a beat of my heart, and once again you will be mine
You tell me that you love me and if you do you’ll hear my plea
To close your eyes, with joy in your heart, only good times will you see
And that day will come when you are here, in an instant by your side
With all the other animals who you loved with equal pride
One look from you and we’d both know, what the other was thinking
We could read minds through our eyes, our souls were clearly speaking
Because your eyes would spell out to me, a message from deep inside
Thoughts of love and trust you’d send, secrets you would confide
So now as your beloved pet, no longer in front of you
I’m sending this message from my heart to yours, as our eyes can no longer do
I want you to know I’m safe and well, now I passed to the other side
And looking back, I know the fact, you loved me with so much pride
I need you to know I loved you too, even more than you loved me
I relied on you to survive, to be healthy and illness free
And you did this, I was safe from harm but now I see you frown
I feel your pain, but there is no gain, it hurts me that you’re down.
I’m safe and well, I’m happy, I’m reuniting with old friends
There’s lots of other pets round here, there’s no sense this is the end
There is no sadness at Rainbow Bridge, just a single tear
That’s not because we’re unhappy now, it’s because you are not here
This single tear reminds us, each and every day
Of loved ones we have left behind, but that doesn’t stop the play
I’m having fun, I’m fighting fit. Eat, play, sleep, repeat
But last thing at night and when I awake, my heart will miss a beat
I get a pang of immense pain, for a split second I feel alone
But then for all the others times I’m like a dog with a juicy bone!
I do not carry the sadness, any blame or feelings of grief
So do me one more favour and live on with this belief
And because on earth I have so few years, my heart only belongs to you
But as you live for longer this is what I want you to do
Go love another animal, now that I am safely here
And do it without hesitation, do it without any fear
And although its cruel I live so few years, and I have to go before you
In your heart you must know, just how much I adore you
And so for now the best thing for me, although we are apart
Is for you to love another, for you to share your heart
Do not feel guilt or any remorse, that you’re not doing right by me
You cared for me with all you heart, unconditionally
Our love was pure, it filled my life, we both know it was real
Now rescue pets must have the chance, to feel how you made me feel
So promise me you will move on, with no more than a single tear
And when you wake and fall asleep, feel that I am near
But don’t be sad, just think of me, playing with all the others
Comforted by the incredible love, from my new sisters and new brothers
And when I see the other owners, meet pets who came here first
They walk across the bridge as one, hearts about to burst
One day I know that will be us, but with no concept of time
You live your life the best you can, however long, that’s fine
You see, the tear reflects the bridge, red thru violet shade
And only when we reunite, will its sadness fade.
But for now it stays on my cheek, it will never complete its path
Until I see you across the field, when we’ll meet and hug and laugh.
It’s just a matter of time until we’ll meet in this magical place
And only as we cross the bridge, will it trickle down my face
Cos watching those reuniting whilst standing on the green
In death I see lives made whole again, an ironic final dream
So don’t cry for me, be happy, cos all my life you had one plan
That was for me to be safe and well, and this is what I am
I am not there but in your heart I will never disappear
There is no sadness at Rainbow Bridge, just a single tear.

The Rainbow Bridge Poem
Just this side of heaven is a very peaceful place,
where animal lovers around the world think of fondly and embrace.
For when an animal dies that has been close to someone here,
that pet goes to The Rainbow Bridge, free of ailments and of fear.
There are meadows and hills for our special friends,
so they can run & play,
with plenty of food and water, and sunshine throughout the day
Our friends are warm and comfortable, those hurt are strong again.
Health and vigour are theirs once more, free from any pain.
So remember them as they once were, in our dreams of days gone by.
Our animals are happy, but for the small tear in their eye.
Cos just like us they miss someone very special, left behind.
When they look up for a stroke on their head, a hand they cannot find.
They all run and play together, but one day he’ll stop and stare.
He sees you in the distance, he sees you standing there.
His bright eyes are so intent as his eager body quivers.
Excitedly he starts to run through previously tranquil rivers.
You cling together in joyous reunion, never again will you be parted.
As happy kisses replace your tears, companionship restarted.
Your hands caress his beloved head, to you there’s no surprise,
when once again you see love & trust deep in you baby’s eyes.
So long gone from your life but never far from your heart,
the pain now eased, your smile now back, you’ll never be apart.
With great joy you turn and walk through the meadow lined with heather.
Side-by-side with your best friend as you cross The Rainbow Bridge together.

Hi there, and a warm welcome to Rainbow Bridge Online.
This blog is dedicated to remembering our pets who are waiting, albeit busy playing, at Rainbow Bridge. It is a community of like-minded animal-lovers who want to remember their pets with a smile, whilst helping and supporting others who have also felt the pain of losing a friend or two.
We all have that in common.
I am Tony; a father, a husband and a dog owner. Like many of you, I love my pets and they are treated as family members. On saying that, if you ask my wife, the order is dogs, daughter and then me but hey, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
We currently have Missy the Pug (AKA Misty, Pug Face, Stinky, Cat-Dog, Top Cat and Princess Missy Moo Moo) and a Rottie called Bear (AKA Bear Peanut, Bear Cub, Stinky (notice a pattern here?) and Doofus). Naturally they both insisted on having their own Instagram pages… Missy can be found @pugtasticmissy, whilst Bear is @bear_peanut14. In this house, Missy is the boss of the two being older and, if I may, female. Bear is, quite simply, an arse. We all agree on that one.
Whilst losing a pet is incredibly tough, it is important to remember what did your pet do that made you smile? What fitting memorials can we create for them?
You can submit your pets for free here, or via our Instagram page if you prefer. This creates a fantastic memorial wall where other owners have submitted their pets. This allows animal lovers around the world to leave words of love, compassion and support quickly and easily.
I hope to create a passionate, loyal and active community for this pet loss memorial wall, and I hope that you will be part of that too. Words of support when your pet passes can make a real difference to how you feel, especially from strangers who are likely to be animals lovers who have experienced the pain of pet loss.
Even leaving a single emoji can help comfort a broken heart.
On that note you will find many poems and quotes offering comfort. I have written two poems myself, one of which is Rainbow Bridge (my version of the classic inspired by the original Rainbow Bridge poem) and the second is A Single Tear, the pet’s point of view whilst they wait at Rainbow Bridge. I hope you take the time to read them as I am super-proud of them both.
From A Single Tear, Buddy was created with the help of my daughter (who can be found on YouTube @ThatYouTubeGirl), and Buddy features on his own merchandise. If you like the story behind him, which you can read here, and would like to purchase some of his products, including our Pet Loss Memorial Pin, you can find out more on these Buddy the Dog blogs, or why not go crazy and jump straight to our Rainbow Bridge Merchandise Page or the Rainbow Bridge Online store now…?!?
Finally I hope you will sense from me an underlying tone of love, compassion and empathy towards other pet lovers who, whilst having incredible 4-legged companions around them now, also have the irreplaceable and happy memories, with the occasion pang of sadness, for those who have since departed and who now wait for us at Rainbow Bridge.
Lots of love and all the very best to you and your extended family.
